VA Combined Rating & Compensation Estimator

This tool helps you estimate your combined VA rating using "VA Math," including the bilateral factor. Add your conditions and dependent information to see an educational estimate of your monthly compensation. How to Get Your Estimate in 3 Easy Steps: Click "+ Add Condition from List" to open the search panel. In the panel, find your condition, select its Disability %, and choose a Side (if it's an arm or leg). Then, click the small blue "Add" button for that condition. This moves it to your main list. After adding all conditions and your dependent info, click the big purple "Calculate" button to see your results!

The bilateral factor may apply if you have service-connected conditions affecting both arms or both legs.

About VA Math

  • Highest First: Ratings are sorted from highest to lowest. The first rating is applied to a "whole person" (100%).
  • Remaining Efficiency: Each next rating is applied to the percentage that is still "healthy." For example, after a 30% rating, you are considered 70% healthy. A second 10% rating would be 10% of that 70% (i.e., 7 points), not a full 10.
  • Bilateral Factor: If you have conditions on paired limbs (e.g., left knee and right wrist are not pairs; left knee and right knee are), those ratings are combined first, then 10% of their combined value is added *before* combining with other disabilities. This is a crucial bonus.
  • Final Rounding: The final raw score is rounded to the nearest 10%. A score of 45% rounds up to 50%. A score of 44% rounds down to 40%.

Additional Compensation Factors

Aid and Attendance (A&A): Veterans with certain levels of disability (e.g., loss of a limb, blindness) who require assistance with daily activities may be eligible for additional monthly compensation. This is a special benefit paid in addition to the standard disability pay.

Special Monthly Compensation (SMC): SMC is a higher rate of compensation paid to veterans with specific, severe disabilities such as the anatomical loss of or loss of use of extremities, blindness, or those who are permanently bedridden. The rates for SMC are complex and have their own separate tables.
